CUBIST BLUES (Andrew Ranken & Joe Korner)
Intractable people, impossible schemes
Waiting for salvation to come in their dreams
Can’t see round the corner, chorus of fools
Implacable logic, circus of mules
Got to square the circle, circle the square
Try a different angle, got to breathe some fresh air
Got to shake the bottle, rattle that old guitar
Got to break the habit or you’re going nowhere
What’s happening in my mind? Am I getting lost?
Where’s that thought leading me ? Got to think outside the box
Stuck inside four walls between the ceiling and the floor but
What’s out the window ? What’s coming through the door?
Same old wooden table, same old dark cafe
All that dreary furniture, never once re-arranged
Same old claustrophobia and what the papers say
Until a flash of magic lit that ordinary day
What’s happening in my mind? Am I getting lost ?
Where’s that thought leading me? Got to think outside the box
Stuck inside four walls between the ceiling and the floor but
What’s out the window ? What’s coming through the door ?
Braque and Picasso, they saw it all
Before the world stopped listening, the world that went to war
Now I’ve got these cubist blues, trying to see a different way
Trying to free the sunbeams from that cold clay
